KIDS ARE DIRTY AND GROSS

When we moved into this house, I had dreams of a living room that was clean and orderly. Not a formal living room or anything, but a room that would escape being trashed by the kids, where I could put nice stuff and not have to worry about sharp corners and breakable objects because the boys wouldn't be spending much time in there. A grown-up room.

That didn't happen (insert sobbing sounds here). In fact, because the house lacks on of those open floor plans with a country kitchen/family room, the living room has turned into the place where we spend the most time as a family. Great, fine, I can roll with the punches and adjust my vision, etc. The problem is, I bought a rug for the room back when I was suffering from the delusion that kids wouldn't be ransacking it on a daily basis. So it's white (insert laughter here). Well, it would be more accurate to say it WAS white. Here are some shots of what it looks like now:

Nice, right? So I dream of a new rug. This beauty we have now is just a bound remnant from Carpet World, but what I really want is an antique Oriental rug, a huge one, in muted shades of beige and gold. Like these:

Ted makes the very valid, but still really annoying, point that it makes no sense to get  new rug while the kids are still young enough to trash it. I still say we could keep those brats adorable tots corralled in some other part of the house while we enjoyed adult time in the living room. Not that kind of adult time! Jesus, you guys, always with your minds in the gutter. Just some time reading a magazine, with people speaking in normal voices (if I have to say "use your INDOOR voice" one more time I may kill someone), and no one eating or drinking. Is that so much to ask? I told Ted I'm willing to wait until William goes to school, so, the fall of 2014. Then, I want to redo the floors, get new couches, and a NEW RUG.
